The home of the happy goat

A family-run goat dairy on the Shropshire/Cheshire border. Artisan cheese, milk and meat, made here from our own herd.

The family

We are Iain and Jane Clarke. We established Berryfields Farmhouse Creamery in 2022 alongside our vegetable business (going since the early 2000s), after two decades of farming in Aberdeenshire on our award-winning, Soil Association organic farm.

Our daughters, Esme, Imogen, and Iona, help out on the farm when they can. We've been in farming all our lives and we're passionate about local, artisan food and looking after our animals with care and love. Our goats are primarily pedigree Anglo-Nubians, with some Saanens, bred for rich, creamy milk that is ideal for cheese.

The farm

Welcome to Berryfields Farm and Farmhouse Creamery. We're a family-run goat dairy on the Shropshire/Cheshire border. Our herd is part of the family; we produce artisan goat cheese, milk and meat from our nannies (we call them our girls).

The land

12 acres · 15 acres grazing · 50 goats. In spring, summer and autumn our girls graze on lush, nutrient-rich herbal pasture. We believe happy goats produce the best milk; their welfare and natural grazing come first.

We milk daily in a small parlour; the raw milk is bottled or turned into traditional cheeses soft to semi-hard using time-honoured techniques and a lot of care.

Our goats (our girls)

The home of the happy goat. Our nannies (and the odd billy) all have names and their own characters. In summer they graze on rich herbal grassland; they come in at night and on wet days (they don't like the rain!) and are housed in family groups on fresh straw.

Baby, also known as Candy, standing in the field

Baby (Candy)

A favourite

One special lady Baby named Candy, was bottle-reared two years ago. She's friendlier than any dog and will follow you around; now she's bigger, she might push you over!

Our herd prefix is Dodcott, after the parish of Dodcott Cum Wilkesley.

The creamery

Our cheese is crafted with love

We make cheese in our on-farm creamery at least three times a week in small batches. The milk is warmed, then we add starter culture (friendly bacteria) and rennet to form curds. The curds are cut, drained, and put into cloths or moulds; harder cheeses are pressed.

Every step from our goats and their feed, through milking and lactation, to the creamery, ripening and packing happens here at Berryfields. We're proud of that, and we think you'll taste it.
